Map
of Cape Pakarang (Coral Cape) in the Khao Lak Area
This is a great area of Khao Lak -
very worth a drive (see the Pakarang Drive page on the
overhead menu). The Pakarang area offers some of
the more interesting beaches for beachcombers with very
interesting shells and often large bits of coral washing
up on the shores over night. Bang Sak Beach in the
north of this map - offers many beach shack type
restaurants right on the beach front. Walking
along Pak Weep Beach (sometimes spelled "Pakweeb")
you'll also find a good variety of small restaurants.
Out on the tip of the Cape, low tide
can look a bit like an alien land [see top left photo].
The whole area is great for bird watching - particularly
the drive into the Similana [closed and being upgraded
and rebuilt and rebranded] from the main road - and the
coconut grove near the end of the cape. Rollers
and Kingfishers are quite common - as well as the usual
Drongos and Coucals.
Around the end of the Cape and heading
south is a fine beach with several new resorts coming
in. Only a few small restaurants are in the area -
but many more can be expected soon.
This is a great area for long walks,
but take plenty of water with you as it is easy to walk
further than you thought and you can get pretty thirsty
on the way back.
Go and enjoy one of the more
interesting areas of Khao Lak.
