Koh Kho Khao is still
somewhat undiscovered though you will find a
series of resorts along the southwestern tip
of the island. This is a great place
if you seek quiet and solitude.
Head north from Khao Lak towards
Takuapah and turn left after the #82 kilometer stone.
If you get to #83 - you went too far. Follow
a somewhat winding main road to the ferry
area.
The ferry to the mainland
quits running at 6pm - so if you seek the
nightlife of the Khao Lak area - this is not
the place to stay. Nonetheless, it is
a great island to explore with a good
sampling of birdlife and even iguanas here
and there.
Signs on the island
indicate the development of an airport,
certainly an eventual boost to tourism on
this quiet island - come and enjoy it before
it becomes too popular.
The old Japanese airstrip
indicated on the map below is also expected
to be the location of the new airport.
Already there are some small bungalow
resorts being built in that area.
The beaches are long and deserted, this is a
great place for long beach strolls.
Rent a motorbike or car
and spend a day exploring the back roads and
villages for a sampling of quiet rural Thai
