Phuket to Samui to Krabi Loop Self-Drive:
A Budget "World Class Drive"

This is a great drive if you have at least three free days and really want to experience some Thailand countryside and beautiful scenery.  You can use this map to help you navigate to Phuket, Krabi, Phang-Nga and Samui as their own individual trips or as a full circuit. The trip passes right through Khao Lak, Takuapa and Khao Sok - so you have specific directions right from Khao Lak.

Khao Lak to Khao Sok National Park: Day trip

Khao Lak to Krabi: A long day trip, but can be done if you leave early

Khao Lak to Koh Samui : Best as a two-day trip

Khao Lak to Phuket: A good day trip

Khao Lak to Samui to Krabi to Phuket and return:  Three days at least - better as four or more.

The roads in this part of Thailand are quite good, signed in Thai and English, and - away from the major tourist areas - relatively uncrowded.

Ideally, don't drive at night as roads are not always well lit, some vehicles may be unlit and it is not unusual for dogs and people wearing dark clothing to be walking on these unlit roads.  So . . . if you do drive after dark, keep your speed down and don't outdrive your headlights.
